The Waka Project

About Waka Farms

“Waka farms was officially started in 2017 as a business venture between father-son team and partners Vilimone and Jonathan Batisarisari. The decision to start this venture was tipped into engagement at the realization of the abundance of resources provided in the Fiji Islands and lack of employment opportunities surrounding this potential. To be the most innovative company in the South Pacific, is the vision of Waka Farms, and we will achieve this by being the most recognized brand, having a multi-faceted market approach, and putting our priorities in the right order.”

- Jon Batesarisari

The Brand Design

This brand is essentially a visual identity to stand for a forward thinking approach to a rural environment tradition. It has been designed to be inviting, building on Fijian art traditions through its pattern in order to strengthen community and village life. It has also be designed with a fresh boldness, employing bright colours and eye-catching graphics, in order to stand out in a contemporary marketplace.

A Geometric Logo

This logo is built from one triangle. Fijian art features geometric patterns so it is with this art in mind that a triangle was used to create the shapes which make up this logo. The “K” is built from the shortest dimension of the shape.

The logo is designed to sit confidently in a busy market place, on a range of materials and in association with a range of organizations as Waka Farms expands its involvement in their community.

The Masi Cloth

This cloth is used for significant ceremonies and events. It remains an iconic element of Fijian artwork and is seen in things like the Fiji Airways brand. Recognized artists can interpret the meaning of the geometric shapes in these works. Taking inspiration from this style and combining it with the pieces of this brand, we have started a pattern to accompany this brand.

Symbols have been created (as seen below) to signify Waka Farms values as well as aspects of the farm. These symbols were designed based on inspiration from traditionally created Masi Cloth patterns.

Clothing

Being able to represent an identity through what we wear has become an important part of contemporary culture. Waka Farms has done an awesome job owning their brand and creating some clothing.
